Unearthing Belton's History: The Resurfacing of Hawthorne's Groceries at Random's Coffee!

Welcome back to another exciting update from Random's Coffee. As we continue our journey together, we wanted to share an incredible discovery we made during the renovation of our beloved brick building.

Let's take a step back in time to the late 19th century when Andrew Carson Hawthorne laid the foundation of his grocery store at 414 Main Street. The year was 1894, and Hawthorne's ambition led him to build a magnificent brick structure that would stand the test of time.

Recently, during our construction process, we stumbled upon a remarkable piece of history—a weathered painted sign on the brick wall, proudly bearing the words "Hawthorn Groceries." This sign, over 120 years old, reveals the store's rich heritage and its significance in Belton's history.

It's fascinating to imagine the bustling activity that once filled these walls, as Hawthorne expanded his business, serving not only groceries but also an array of dry goods. Over the years, this painted sign became an integral part of the store's façade, welcoming customers and becoming a symbol of community connection.

During the renovation, we carefully removed a chalkboard that had covered the sign for decades, allowing us to unveil this incredible treasure. As we marveled at its existence, we couldn't help but feel a deep sense of responsibility to honor this piece of history.

Our vision for Random's Coffee goes beyond simply serving exceptional coffee. We strive to create a space that bridges the gap between past and present, where community thrives, and stories are shared. The discovery of this historic grocery sign only reinforces our commitment to preserving the heritage of this building and the spirit of Belton.

As we prepare to open our doors in the near future, we want you to be a part of this journey. Your presence and support mean the world to us. We invite you to join us in celebrating the past and embracing the future of Random's Coffee.
